-Kevin Carwile currently serves as the Band Director for North Hall High School in Gainesville, Ga. He took over this position in May of 2010. Previously he served as the Orchestra Director, Assistant Band Director, Percussion Director, and Music Technology Director at Central Gwinnett High School in Lawrenceville, Ga. Mr. Carwile has held this position since the fall of 2000. During his time at Central, Mr. Carwile has been involved in the Philharmonic Orchestra, the Symphonic Orchestra, the indoor and outdoor drum lines, percussion ensembles, jazz bands, music technology performance recordings, writing music and drill for the marching band, arranging music for a wide variety of ensembles, teaching woodwinds and music theory, and critiquing music ensembles of every level. Kevin currently holds a T5 teaching certificate for the state of Georgia. He earned his Master’s in music education in 2004 with an emphasis in orchestral education, including a jazz bass performance emphasis, from the Vandercook College of Music in Chicago, Illinois. There he studied conducting with Charles Emmons and applied bass with Scott Mason and Marlene Rosenberg. He has also studied bass with Adam Nitti in the Atlanta area. Mr. Carwile received his Bachelor’s of Music Education from Georgia State University in the spring of 2000. At Georgia State he studied woodwinds with Mr. Sam Skelton, Dr. Gregory Pritchard and Mr. Robert Haley. He also studied conducting with Dr. Gregory Pritchard, Dr. Thomas Wubbenhorst, and Dr. Fusao Kajima. There he studied with an emphasis in woodwinds (Saxophone, Flute, and Clarinet) and a minor in German. Since then, Kevin has been chosen as a participant in the International Conductor’s Workshop where he studied conducting with Maestro Adrian Gnam. As a conductor, he has also participated in numerous other clinics around the country. As a music technology educator, Mr. Carwile wrote the new standards and curriculum for music technology for the state of Georgia and will be presenting those at the Georgia Music Educator Association conference in January of 2010. As a professional musician, Kevin has been involved in the music and live sound business since 1994 where he has worked as a performer, sound man, instrument tech, and recording engineer. He regularly works as a DJ and MC for live events and runs sound at many different venues in the southeast, as well as serving as the sound engineer for the Odyssey Percussion Theater. Mr. Carwile is also a frequent visitor to the recording studio and the live stage where he has recorded and played drum, bass and woodwind parts for many groups in the Atlanta area. Mr. Carwile regularly serves as a clinician and adjudicator around the southeast in many different capacities. He currently lives in Buford, Ga with his wife Jennifer, his son Darren, and their two dachshunds.
-Aaron Hughes is in his third as Assistant Band Director, and in his 10th year as percussion instructor at North Hall High School. Aaron was on staff previously from 1997-2002. Aaron has served as instructor for both the Marching Trojans, as well as the Indoor Drumline . Aaron is in his 15th year of teaching percussion ensembles, and has previously Instructed percussion ensembles, and/or drumlines for Oconee County High School ( 1 year), Central Gwinnett High School (1 year), Franklin County High School (1 year), Stephens County High School ( 1 year), Walhalla High School, Walhalla S.C. ( 1 year), Seneca High School, Seneca S.C. ( 1 year), D.W. Daniel High School, Clemson S.C. ( 2 years), North Springs High School, Fulton County ( 2 years), White County High School ( 2 years), Loganville High School ( 2 years), East Hall High School ( 2 years), Habersham Central High School ( 5 years), North Gwinnett High School ( 5 years). In addition to High School work, Aaron has taught Percussion for North Hall Middle School, East Hall Middle School, Franklin County Middle School, North Habersham Middle School, and South Habersham Middle School. Aaron has taught over 1000 private students for Pro Music, Mountain Music, and Drums 101, and continues to accept students. Aaron was also a Clinician for Yamaha Summer Music Camp in 1996, and was Timpani instructor for The Corps Vets Drum and Bugle Corps in 2005. Aaron has also performed as a clinician for Pro Music in 1998.
Aaron Attended Truett McConnell College for Two years as a music major, while studying percussion at Georgia State University with Jeff Kershner. After completing TMC, Aaron transferred to Georgia State University, as a music Industry Major. Aaron was a member of the TMC Singers, TMC Jazz and Concert Bands, Georgia State Percussion ensemble, and The Georgia State Orchestra.
Aaron was a North Hall High School Band member from 1989-1993, and Graduated from West Hall High School in 1994. As a Percussionist Aaron has performed with The Gainesville Symphony Orchestra, the Toccoa Symphony Orchestra, and continues to perform with numerous theater groups. Aaron was a touring member of Captain Luther Howdy and The Prozac Cowboys Disco and Funk Revue for 4 years, and was a member of the Smokin' Joe Country band for a year. Aaron is currently a member of Jazz 101, and is a freelance performer, in both studio and live settings. Aaron is also an active writer and arranger of percussion ensemble, and marching percussion music, and has been since 1994.
Aaron was the owner of DRUMS 101 in Gainesville, and founded AHA Custom Drums. Aaron has served as a consultant for product development for Pearl Corporation, SABIAN Ltd., Aquarian Drum Heads, and Evans Drum Heads. Aaron and his brother Jess have been featured in Modern Drummer magazine, Drum magazine, and Vintage Drummer Magazine, and Not so Modern Drummer magazine. The Brothers were also featured on the Cover of Family Business Magazine in 2003.
Aaron resides in Gainesville, with wife Denise. Together they have three wonderful children, Kristen, Emily, and Jacob. Aaron is an avid auto racing enthusiast, enjoys camping and travel, American History, Industrial History, Hockey, and Finance.
